Wilfley recently updated a long-running AF chemical pump with a brand new prototype static seal. The pump has been operating successfully in a very tough ammonium nitrate service for over 20 years. To ensure reliable seal operation, AF pumps require normal maintenance, which, due to the process conditions, the customer hasn’t been able to perform regularly. The resultant periodic leakage from the seal became a nuisance, so Wilfley was contacted about a solution. The new prototype static seal has completely stopped the leakage problem and is also much easier to maintain than the former seal.

The new prototype seal has the same functionality as the successful and proven DryLock® 2 static seal that is currently available for the A7 and A9 chemical pumps and the installation couldn’t be easier:

  • The seal assembly bolts directly on to the existing seal housing
  • The governor springs are removed and the shaft is locked axially
  • Seal clearances are set
